KEMER – PHASELIS – OLYMPOS – CAVUS BAY – TUESDAY
After breakfast and briefing sailing to Phaselis, an ancient Greek and Roman city on the coast of Lycia. Its ruins are located north of the modern town Tekirova in the Kemer district of Antalya Province in Turkey. After Phaselis we will sail to Olympos (Latin: Olympus) an ancient city in Lycia. It is situated in a river valley near the coast. The ruins are located south of the modern town Çıralı in the Kumluca district of Antalya Province, Turkey. After the sightseeing will drop anchor at Cavus bay for the night.
KEKOVA BAYS, KALEKOY, UCAGIZ BAYS – WEDNESDAY
An early start for Kekova, for breakfast and time to swim in this quiet bay surrounded by olive groves. Kaleköy (literally “Castle’s village” in Turkish; Simena), is a village of the Demre district in the Antalya Province of Turkey, located between Kaş and Demre, on the Mediterranean coast. Kaleköy faces the island of Kekova, and can be reached by sea or on foot from Üçağız. The village lies amidst a Lycian necropolis, which is partially sunken underwater. Kaleköy is overlooked by a Byzantine castle, built in the Middle Ages to fight the pirates which nested in Kekova. The castle contains a small theatre. We spend the night in this area.
KEKOVA BAYS, KAS BAYS – THURSDAY
After breakfast Gulet boats will set sail for Kaş (pronounced ‘Kash’) a small fishing, diving, yachting and tourist town, and a district of Antalya Province of Turkey, 168 km west of the city of Antalya. As a tourist resort, it is relatively unspoilt. After a few hours of walking around the town we will heave up the anchor for the last stop for the day.
KALKAN (YESILKOY) – FRIDAY
After breakfast, a short cruise to the sheltered bay at Kalkan. Kalkan is an old fishing town, and the only safe harbour between Kaş and Fethiye; it is famous for its white-washed houses, descending to the sea, and its brightly coloured bougainvilleas. It averages 300 days of sunshine a year. The area includes many historical sites (such as Tlos) and many fine beaches (including Patara Beach & Kaputaş Beach). Gulet boats will spend the day exploing the town and the lovely bays close by.
BUTTERFLY VALLEY, OLUDENIZ, ST. NICHOLAS ISLAND – SATURDAY
Gulet boats will make an early start cruising to Butterfly Valley. The valley is situated at the foothill of Babadağ, a 1,975 m (6,480 ft)-high mountain nominated for preservation as world heritage. A wide-strip sand beach at a bay on the Turkish Riviera protrudes from the valley. In the form of a narrow canyon stretching over around 3–4 km (1.9–2.5 mi), the valley’s steep walls are 350 – 400 m (1,150–1,310 ft) high. A trail in the valley leads to two small waterfalls dropping from 60 m (200 ft) all the year around. In the middle of the valley, a creek runs, carrying water from a spring in nearby Faralya village to the sea. A road from Oludeniz to Uzunyurt, which is part of the Lycian Way Ultramarathon route, runs atop the rocks around the valley. After the walk we will drop anchor near Oludeniz.
Oludeniz (literally Dead Sea, due to its calm waters even during storms; official translation name Blue Lagoon) is a small village and beach resort in the Fethiye district of Muğla Province, on the Turquoise Coast of southwestern Turkey, at the conjunction point of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. It is located 14 km (9 mi) to the south of Fethiye, near Mount Babadag. Oludeniz remains one of the most photographed beaches on the Mediterranean. It has a secluded sandy bay at the mouth of Oludeniz, on a blue lagoon. The beach itself is a pebble beach. The lagoon is a national nature reserve and construction is strictly prohibited. The seawater of Oludeniz is famous for its shades of turquoise and aquamarine, while its beach is an official Blue Flag beach, frequently rated among the top 5 beaches in the world by travelers and tourism journals alike.
After lunch and swim break in Oludeniz we sail for our last stop for the day in Gemiler island. Gemiler Island (Saint Nicholas Island) is an island located near the city of Fethiye. On the island are the remains of several churches built between the fourth and sixth centuries AD, along with a variety of associated buildings. Archaeologists believe it was the location of the original tomb of Saint Nicholas.
